Denise M. Zieleniewski, Human Resource Manager
Denise has served as the Residential and Hospitality Services Human Resource Manager for the last five years. Her primary responsibility is the management and over sight of Human Resource functions within the Division. These functions include; labor and employee relations, staff development and a variety of other human capital organizational processes.
Starting with her BS Degree from MSU in Employee Relations, Denise has continued to expand her knowledge of the Human Resources field including; Foundations of Effective Leadership Pilot Group Participant Graduate (1998), Dale Carnegie Graduate (1999), Dale Carnegie Graduate Assistant (2000), Collegiate Management Institute Graduate (Part I, 2000, Part II, 2001), Disney Leadership Excellent Program Graduate (2002) and recently earned professional designations from the MSU School of Labor and Industrial Relations of Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP, 2006) and Certified Human Resources Specialist (CHRS, 2007).
To stay connected to our community she is involved in a variety of University and external committees. Denise is a member of the Girl Scout Michigan Capital Council Rewards (GSMCC) and Recognition Committee, Human Resource Development Advisor Committee, Employee Assistance Program Advisory Committee, Chair of the Housing & Food Services Robert C. Underwood Scholarship Committee, a Sherwood Grant Award winner at the Association of College and University Housing officers International Conference, identified as a Human Resources subject matter expert on the MSU Enterprise Business Systems Projects (EBSP) team and a member of the Supervisors Committee for the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union.
A true Spartan, Denise enjoys MSU sports and cultural events. In her leisure time she enjoys her family, including nine nieces and nephews, friends, her home (Dwor Zieleniewskich) and detailing her Audi TT.
Chet Magaway, Assistant Human Resources Manager
Chet Magaway is the Assistant Human Resources Manager for Residential and Hospiality Services at Michigan State University. His responsibilities include professional development and divisional training and development initiatives and assisting with labor and employee relations matters.
A 1994 MSU graduate with a BA in Human Resources Management, Chet was a resident and student employee of Snyder/Phillips Hall from 1989 - 1994, and served his last two years as a Resident Assistant/Mentor.
Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom, Chet was a Field Trainer for the entire state of Michigan at Coca-Cola Enterprises, facilitating new hire orientations and corporate leadership training programs, in addition to designing and developing training programs to meet their business needs. Chet also utilized his creativity and writing skills as an editor for their business unit employee newsletter.
Certified as a Franklin Covey FOCUS Facilitator, and as a Targeted Selection (Behavioral Based Interviewing) Administrator and Facilitation Skills Leadership Facilitator through Development Dimensions International, Inc., Chet looks forward to sharing his skills, knowledge, and experience with the MSU Residential and Hospitality Services staff.
Laura King, Human Resources Divisional Trainer
As divisional trainer, Laura is responsible for developing and delivering Divisional training programs, such as “Here for Success” and “Winning Leadership and Coaching.” Laura earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Central Michigan University. She joined Residential and Hospitality Services in November of 1999 and began her Dining Services career, working as a supervisor at the Owen Café, Akers/Hubbard and South Dining Complexes. She was promoted in June 2007 to assistant manager for the new University Village, and was responsible for the successful operation of University Housing’s newest residential complex. Before coming to MSU, Laura was an assistant manager for ARAMARK.
Jennifer Roberts, Assistant Human Resources Manager for Labor & Employee Relations
As assistant HR manager for labor & employee relations, Jennifer is responsible for the day-to-day management of employee relations and union contracts. Jennifer joined Residential and Hospitality Services in December of 2000 as a Dining Services supervisor in West Circle. In 2003, she was promoted to the Dining Services manager for West Circle. She has also managed the Dining Services operations for South Complex, as well as Holmes/McDonel. Prior to joining Residential and Hospitality Services, Jennifer worked for ARAMARK as the events coordinator in the MSU Union. She also earned her certification as a certified labor relations specialist in May of 2008.
Linda Oesterle, Office Assistant III
Linda has served in a variety of positions at Hubbard Hall for Housing & Food Services, starting as a Desk Receptionist in 1987. In 1989 she was promoted to an Accounting Clerk, six months later she was promoted to an Office Assistant II and in 1996 she was promoted to Secretary II. In May 2007, she was promoted to her current position of Office Assistant III, and left Hubbard for Holmes Hall.
Linda enjoys gardening, spending time with her family and spoiling her 2 beautiful granddaughters.
